Introduction to the Intersection of Sciences
· By Path to Parallel
Welcome to Path to Parallel! Today, we'll explore how all topics of STEM intersect. Including math,
sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.), coding, and engineering and how they all come together and make each other up!
Let's first break down STEM.
STEM, sometimes also represented as STEAM, stands for Science, Technology,
Engineering, (Art,) and Math. The reason why this broad topic is represnted through the acronym of STEM is because all
these disciplines are interconnected and support each other in various ways. For example, engineering wouldn't be possible
without math or physics, because it is just the applied form of both topics.
This is similar for other topics, even branching
into medicine, which is a lot of applied biology. Now that we understand how subjects like math and science can relate to careers like medicine
and engineering, let's explore how two larger disciplines like computer science and engineering connect.
When you build a robot, you must assemble the parts, which is engineering. But to get it to move, you must program it to do so, giving it
instructions, which is how the coding aspect comes to play. Engineering and coding both work together to create a robot.
